A Voluntary Aided Academy

Year 7

In Year 7 students will continue to develop their skills in reading, speaking and listening and writing. They will follow a varied curriculum which looks at diverse literary texts from authors such as Robert Louis Stevenson and Dickens, through to modern classic novels such as the popular ‘The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas’. Additionally, they will continue to improve their skills and abilities when writing for a variety of audiences and purposes, focusing especially on the organisation and structure of texts.

In year 7 students have the opportunity to further progress as independent readers through weekly reading lessons in the library. During this time they have access to a range of reading materials and are able to monitor and assess their own reading through the use of the Accelerated Reader programme.
