A Voluntary Aided Academy

Year 13

At key stage five our students have an opportunity to study English Language and English Literature at advanced level; building on the strong foundation and success enjoyed by students at key stage four. In A Level English Language students will study English in a variety of forms and contexts, as well as the concepts and methods necessary to analyse language.  Assessment of English Language is done in a number of ways, including data analysis, essay writing, investigative writing, and you own original writing.

In A Level English Literature students are immersed in a vast array of literature including the study of Carol Ann Duffy, William Wordsworth, F. Scott Fitzgerald and William Shakespeare. We offer an exciting programme of study that encourages students to develop their interest in and enjoyment of literature through reading widely and independently, both set texts and others that they have selected for themselves. English Literature at A level is a course that challenges and stretches our students.
