St Mary's Catholic College
A Voluntary Aided Academy

Year 10

In Year 10 we follow the AQA GCSE Language and Literature syllabus.  Our students participate in an exciting and varied programme of English, including studying Dickens, nonfiction texts and a broad choice of poems linked to the theme of ‘Love and Relationships’. Developing a lifelong love of English is at the heart of what we do here at St Mary’s Catholic College and our students particularly enjoy functional tasks which prepare them for the world of work, further and higher education.

Our students are excellent public speakers, being part of a performing arts college means that they are well aware of how to capture and sustain the attention of their listener through engaging speech and debates. Problem solving and group tasks are regular features in our lessons, as our students enjoy learning collaboratively and as active members of our community. Poetry Day, working with authors, visiting live poetry events and competing in writing competitions are just a few of the areas where our students shine.
