Autumn Term - Kick It Shoe Project

Based upon initial studies of their own shoes and trainers, students enter the Surreal world of Salvador Dali and Rene Magritte, and they are encouraged to visit the Tate Gallery Liverpool to see their original works. They then use these two areas of focus to go on to produce a unique shoe design of their own .A trainer that could turn into an aeroplane or a platform shoe covered in sweets. Time to let your imagination run wild!

Homework for the first half term consists of researching surreal artists, producing creative collages of faces made of unusual items and designing their own trainers on the Nike and Adidas websites. In the latter half term their A.I.P. project will be to produce a completely surreal object over 4 weeks. Last year we had some remarkable Fried Egg Hats and Spaghetti Bolognese cakes.

Spring Term - Heros/Identity, The Real Heroes In Our World

As a starting point students will study portrait and emotion through various traditional techniques of draughtsmanship as well as exciting new ones such as wire, collage and paint. Students will then go on to look at the real heroes in our world both locally and on an international scale. Students will then devise as composition in there own chosen media that portrays why they feel their chosen hero makes such an important contribution to their world. Previously we have had very moving pieces produced about local firemen, Mums and Dads, politicians, religious leaders and sporting legends.

Hwk - for the first half term students will look at the work of various portrait artists such as Picasso ,Matisse and Terry Bradley, and also practise the draughting skills at home by drawing various family members. For the latter half students will produce an in depth A.I.P. research project based upon their chosen hero, this can be in the form of a power point ,traditional folder or a pictorial piece to compliment their final composition.

Summer Term - Recycling

Students study the theme of recycling, creating original pieces of artwork from left over 'junk' and looking at the footprint as human beings that we leave on the planet. They study the artwork of artists such as Tony Cragg and Andrew Goldsworthy and in groups create a figure that characterises a message of hope, or reminds us of our responsibilities that we have to looking after our planet.

HWK - For the first half term students will be asked to collect and bring in items to create from, such as onion skins and bottle tops, and to complete research on the artists mentioned above.

The second half term for A.I.P. students will be asked to produce an original piece of sculpture or artwork using recycled products. Last year we saw some exciting robots made from milk cartons and bags made from old denim jackets!

ALL A.I.P. HOMEWORKS ARE PRESENTED FORMALLY IN THE LESSON, AND THE STUDENTS WILL BE EXPECTED TO GIVE A SHORT PRESENTATION ABOUT THE PIECE THEY PRODUCED AND HOW THEY CREATED IT. WE STRONGLY ENCOURAGE THE WHOLE FAMILY TO BE INVOLVED IN PRODUCTION AND JOIN IN THE LEARNING AND THE FUN!
