Dear Parents and Carers
Securing great Year 11 results for our students in August!
We are delighted with the progress being made by our current Year 11 students, as was evidenced in their recent March mock examination performances. Nothing is certain yet but their results were significantly better than those achieved in January with many students achieving an improvement of two grades in their English and maths grades. Those students who regularly attended extra lessons improved the most. There were also very promising results in many other GCSE subjects in the January mocks.
As you will be used to by now, we have reported “fine” GCSE grades e.g. C1.
‘1’ indicates a student is at the top of the grade and close to the next higher grade.
‘2’ that this is in the middle of the grade.
‘3’ that the grade has only just been achieved and further work needs to done to ensure that this grade is definitely achieved.
After the spring break there are only four weeks of lessons in College before the first GCSE exams begin. Your child has already received a copy of the GCSE timetable and it is also available on line in the exams section of our College website. Most courses have finished covering the content of the course and the focus will be on revising for the exams and refining the students’ examination technique. We know that with the right attitude and application students can still improve their grades before the summer.
It is vital that your child plans and carries out a revision programme over the time that is left. Their teachers are offering extra lessons and I have included a copy of the after-College timetable. Students already have English and maths revision packs and details of how to log on to the excellent online materials the College has purchased to support students’ revision including GCSE Pod.
Spring Break Revision Programme Monday 4th – Friday 15th April 2016
This year we have an extensive programme of extended subject revision sessions on offer to our students. We are confident that the quality of these sessions will enhance the learning of any student who attends and would ask that you urge your child to attend as many sessions as he/she can over the fortnight. I have attached a copy of the full programme.
We appreciate that the run up to GCSE exams is inevitably a busy time but we are confident that working together we can help your children secure the success their efforts deserve. Your support for your child attending extra sessions will be a crucial part of this.
Thank you in anticipation of your continuing support.
