Dear Parents and Carers
We appreciate your support for the work we do together in striving for the best education for your children. I am writing regarding a couple of matters which give you an opportunity to involve yourselves in the life of our College.
Parent Governor Election
We asked for parents and carers to be nominated for the vacancy for a Parent Governor on the Governing Body due to the end of the term of office of one of our current Parent Governors.
Apparently many schools struggle to find willing volunteers for this role so we are delighted to report that four parents have been nominated and so we must conduct an election.
The ballot paper is attached to this letter. We have also asked each of the candidates to give a short pen portrait of themselves which may help you to decide who to vote for, if the candidates are unknown to you.
Can I draw your attention to the fact that there is only one vote allowed to be cast by each parent in a family i.e. families with more than one child in our College do not have multiple votes. Please return completed ballot papers in the envelopes provided to the College office. The deadline for returned votes is Friday 12th February 2016 at midday.
Consultation over the revised College Day
As you will be aware, the timings for our College Day were changed in September 2015. Before these changes were implemented a consultation took place with staff and parents. The governors received a number of responses and decided to make the change but also to undertake a further consultation to review these changes during the academic year 2015-16. Consequently, the governors are undertaking a consultation regarding the changes that will finish on Thursday 24th March 2016. Can I ask that if you have any views to express regarding the current revised College Day you write to the Chair of Governors, Father David Long, co St Mary’s Catholic College. Any responses may be handed in a sealed envelope to the College Office or posted to the College.
Diocesan Building Fund
As you will be aware St Mary’s Catholic College is a school in the Diocese of Shrewsbury. As with Dioceses around the country, the Diocese is required to make a contribution to the development costs of building projects undertaken in Catholic schools. St Mary’s has benefited from these in the past and hopefully will do again in the near future. As a school we are asked to make an annual contribution to this fund and I enclose a leaflet explaining how you can make a contribution to this from which our children will benefit.
Thank you again for your support for the work of our College.
Mr A Boyle
